Just Tell Us Already!!!

We are 18 weeks as of today...Two more weeks and Jessi is half way through our pregnancy. We are very excited to go to Folly Beach this weekend for Susan's wedding and have a good time and relax. Looking back it seems to have gone by quickly....how soon we both forgot the morning sickness and overall yucky feeling! We must just be excited!

Well Jessi is getting very anxious to find out if "Peanut"is a BOY or a GIRL! Only 11 more days!! Not that it will matter either way, but she is just curious. Tomasz says that "Peanut" already knows what he/she is and we just need to be patient. Easier said than done!! Jessi still feels very strongly that we are having a girl, and will be shocked if the doctor tells us otherwise. Tomasz is not sure because based off of all the old myths he thinks it could be either...he does know that Jessi has been eating allot of pickles and that is the sign of a boy.

Here is how big our little "Peanut" is now!

What Is Happening To Your Baby

Your baby is 5.59 inches (14.2 cm) in total length and weighs about 6.7 ounces (190 g).
Your baby’s ears are approaching their final position. Your baby’s eyes are also developing as they’re starting to face forward and their retinas may be able to detect light.
Your baby’s bones will continue to harden and the pads for his fingers and toes are formed. They will gain the characteristic swirls and creases that form finger and toe prints.
The meconium (an early fecal waste matter) will start to be collected in the intestines. If the baby is a boy, the prostate will begin developing as well.
The baby’s heart is starting to build up muscle and is starting to pump out about 25 to 30 quarts of blood a day.

PinkBerry!

Pinkberry is Jessi's new craving this week! Its a healthy one too! Frozen yogurt with your choice of fresh fruit on top. Tonight was Mango frozen yogurt with raspberries and kiwis! YUMMY!

http://www.pinkberry.com/

We got our tests back from the doctor this week. As expected the cystic fibrosis test came back negative. We did find out that Jessi has an A- blood type which means that she has a negative RH factor. If "Peanut" is a positive blood type there is a chance that Jessi's blood will produce antibodies that attack "Peanuts" blood. This only becomes a problem during the actual delivery of the baby when the bloods can come in contact. In earlier years this used to be a problem, but now there is a very easy solution to the Mom and Baby having opposite blood types.
Option 1: The easiest solution is to figure out what Tomasz's blood type is.If Tomasz has a negative blood type as well, there will be no problems going forward. Tomasz will go get his blood tested to figure out  if he is negative or positive--You would think that he is going in for major surgery tomorrow the way he is so scared to give blood.(hehe)
Option 2: The second option is that if Tomasz is a positive blood type, Jessi will get a shot at 28 weeks and then again immediately after delivery of "Peanut". "Poor little "Peanut" will have to get one too when he/she is born. Good news is that the RH Factor is as simple as that to solve. Lets hope that Tomasz has a negative blood type too for simplicity sake! Read More: Just Mommies-RH Factor

Other big news this week is that belly is getting bigger! After only 4 days of being at work Tomasz noticed that Jess's belly had gotten bigger.Check out Jessi at  18 Weeks !

As much as Jessi fought wearing the maternity pants, they are MUCH more comfortable than trying to squeeze the belly into pre-pregnancy jeans!

More to come later. Can't wait to see everyone!

Baby Dolls or Baseballs?

Both Mom to be and Dad to be are feeling great! We went to the doctor last Thrusday and heard the heart beat again through the doplar. No matter how many times we hear it, it is such a cool experiance. Doctor did blood work for normal routine pregancy check up stuff as well as a test for Cystic Fibros carried by Mom. Although Jessi gave the blood, Tomasz had a tough time with the tests ;) After the fourth vile of blood the nurse asked Tomasz if he needed to step out because he was whiter than a ghost. We are going to have to work on this before the baby is delivered!  Doc said everything looks good!

So....the best part of the visit is that we set our Gender Idenification Sonogram!
September 9th we find out if "Peanut" is a boy or a girl. Jessi's intuition says that we are having a girl. I guess we will find out on September 9th!

Anyone want to take a guess?

1. Chinese Gender Calendar
The Bump-Chinese Gender Chart

2. Gender Prediction Quiz
Take the Quiz Yourself!

Congratuations!!
You have a 61% chance of having a boy.
And you have a 38% chance of having a girl.

And Here's Why...
You are carrying the extra weight out front, so it's a boy.
The hair on your legs is growing faster during pregnancy, so it's a boy.
Boys are carried low. You are going to have a boy.
Sleeping in a bed with your pillow to the north indicates that you will be having a boy.
Your feet are not colder than they were before pregnancy. You are having a girl.
You prefer the heel of a loaf of bread. You are having a boy.
Dad-to-be hasn't been gaining weight along with Mom-to-be, so it will be a girl.
The maternal grandmother doesn't have gray hair (dyed or natural), so a girl will be born.
You had morning sickness early in pregnancy, so you are expecting a girl.
You are not looking particularly good during pregnancy. Therefore, it must be a girl, because girls steal their mother's looks.
Your chest development has not been very dramatic during pregnancy. You should expect a boy.
Since the sum of the mother's age at conception and the number of the month of conception is even, it will be a boy.
A needle on a thread held over your belly moves in circles, so you will have a boy.
Your urine is a bright neon yellow color, so you will have a boy.
You have a craving for salty or sour foods, which means that it is a boy.
Your nose hasn't changed during pregnancy, which indicates a girl.
You have been craving meats or cheeses, so it is a boy.
Your baby's heart rate is 140 or more beats per minute, so it's a girl.

We will see who was right on September 9th! Its a 50/50 shot you might have guessed correct.

16 Weeks- Pants or No Pants?!

We are all settled into our apartment and loving NYC city life! Last night we decided to go out for a date night! Dinner and a Movie. How fitting the movie we saw was called the "The Kids are Alright". The movie nor the dinner was the most eventful part of the night to say the least....Jessi getting dressed was almost a deal breaker for us going out for the night. Now that the sickeness has gone away and Jessi's appetite came back the belly has begun to grow. Most women start to show around the 2nd or 3rd month, Jessi was upset becuase her belly was not growing and constantly asked the doctor if this was ok considering she had not gained weight. Well the old saying you get what you ask for was defintaly true in this situation. Out of no where it seems, all of Jessi's clothes did not fit! She tried on on every pair of pants/shorts she owns and almost had a break down while Tomasz kept pulling things out of the closet. We finally settled on a pair of leggings and a long shirt, and went shopping for maternity clothes today.Jessi could not bring herself to wear those ugly pants so we found something else!

We bought the best invention ever made for pregnant women....THE BELLA BAND!
The Bella Band allows you to wear your jeans/pants unbuttoned so that you dont have to wear maternity clothes just quite yet. It also supports your belly when you get really big.... and then after the baby comes supports while you are loosing the weight!

As you can see pants could not be buttoned. The Bella Band did wonders!
(Might I add these were my size 2 pants, which were always too big)

Here are a few more pictures of Jessi's "new" belly!
The best part of being 4 months pregnant is that we get to find out the sex of the baby on September 9th! Stay Tuned ....Talk to you soon!

Week 12- First Trimester is Over! (THANK GOODNESS)

Jessi  is so glad that the first trimester is over. (Tomasz too of course) Starting a new job was not easy with constant nausea and no appetite. The morning sickness started at 7 weeks and finally went away around the 11th week. For anyone else that is pregnant or will be pregnant there are a few things that will quickly become your best friend! Crackers, Toast, Pasta,Ginger Tea and Zofran( prescribed nausea medicine). This was Jessi's steady diet for almost a month. You would think with all the carbohydrates Jessi would have gained a bunch of weight. NOPE. At three months pregnant, Jessi had lost 2 pounds. Most of the weight loss was due to walking approx 2 miles a day(we sold the car when we moved to NY), not drinking alcohol or caffeine, and of course being sick! Thank goodness it is over! In the end it was all worth it to be able to have our little "Peanut".

So "Peanut" has defiantly been growing over the past few weeks. At this point all of the organs have developed and the fingers and toes have separated and are distingusihable. The babies sex is determined at conception, but this is the first week that "peanut" is starting to look like a boy or a girl physically. Still too soon to tell but "Peanut" waived at us when the doctor was doing the ultrasound. Check Out how our baby has developed.12th week of Pregnancy

6 Weeks- Peanut's First Pictures

Sorry Steve someone else beat you to it! Don't worry we are sure you will have plenty of other opportunities to take Peanuts first pictures! "Peanut" is 6 weeks at this point.  When we went to the doctor we sat down to determine the due date, ask questions and then had our first sonogram. We both knew we were pregnant (especially because Jessi had started feeling the morning sickness) but when we heard the heart beat for the first time it was amazing. It was so fast and loud. Everything is looking good! Take a look for yourself!

Don't worry....We are only having one baby! No twins this time. The other spot that you see on the sonogram is the amniotic sack.

At 6 weeks our baby has a heart beat, is developing ears and a nose and little buds for arms and legs are forming. "Peanut" is only 2-5mm long. Week 6  Check it out!

Welcome to Our Pregnancy Blog!

Hello everyone! WE MISS YOU! Since we are almost 1,000 miles away from most of our family and friends we wanted to make a blog so that you can follow our pregnancy with us! We can not wait to meet our little "peanut"! Our due date is January 30th, 2011, just in time for a New York City winter. Peanut is already taking after Mom born in December, and Dad born in January. Hopefully he/she wont mind the cold!

So as many of you know we have already picked out the baby names. If it is a girl the name is Elizabeth Sofia and if it is a boy the name will be Ethan Tomasz. Also if you have not guessed the title of our blog has been Jessi's recent cravings. Pickles saved her from nausea during the first trimester and during the second trimester its been cream cheese, orange juice, and cucumbers. In addtion we have made several late night trips for ice cream....we finally just bought a few Ben and Jerrys for the freezer!

OUR DOCTOR
We have finally found a doctor here in NYC that we both really like and have seen him twice. Jessi has seen the same doctor in Georgia for the past 6 years and was upset that he would not get to deliver the baby. After getting settled in NYC, Jessi picked a doctor out of the Aetna provider directory and did not have such good luck the first time around. After trusting our guts we decided to switch doctors. Tomasz did lots of research on the Internet and read several different rate your doctors sites and we are now seeing Dr. Jason Kanos. He is in a small practice and delivers all of his babies personally unlike much larger practices where the  doctors rotate call. The funniest part about our doctor is that his birthday is January 30th too! Guess that's a good sign! :)

THE HOSPITAL
Dr. Kanos is part of Saint Luke's Roosevelt Hospital System which lucky enough is 4 blocks from our apartment. We live on 54th & 10th  and the hospital is on 50th & 10th. We are so lucky the hospital is so close! Jessi thinks that when she goes into labor she will be able to make the 5 minute walk to the hospital...a little ambitious probably but has her mind set on it. The funniest part is that by the time Tomasz walks to get the car,  brings it around to the front,  drives and drops me off, we probably could have walked there and back. We will pr Check it out! St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital.

We will be posting some  from the past few weeks of our pregnancy to catch you up but stay tuned as our baby grows and you finally get to meet him/her!
